What is the A/E statistic?

2021-05-31T12:46:41+01:00March 28th, 2020|

What is the A/E Statistic?

Anyone who has used or even looked at our Ratings will know that we love data and statistics and in this blog post we are going to discuss the A/E Statistic. If we were looking at just one statistic we can present an additional 5 statistics associated with that statistic. Yep we love it.

So let’s get back to it, what is the A/E statistic? How is it calculated? And what does it tell us?

A/E stands for Actual over Expected.

Now anyone from a statistics background will be familiar with the term Expected but not quite in the same way we use it […]

One tool that we feel all our users should be using more is the RatingTheRaces NagMe Tool. It’s an easy to use Horse Racing tracker service and the great news is it’s FREE for everyone!

If you see a runner that catches your eye you can add it to your NagMe.

Was it finishing fast? Didn’t get a clear run? Wanted a faster pace? Add it to your RatingTheRaces NagMe and be alerted for when it runs next time.

Adding a selection.

Remember to include your reason why you wanted to add it. Sometimes horses do not run for 2, 3, 4 months […]

Liam’s Horses To Follow – Day 4 of Cheltenham Festival 2020

Liam was tasked with finding just 1 horse to take out of each race from the Cheltenham Festival. Check out his Horses To Follow from Day 4 of the Cheltenham Festival below. He’ll be looking at them in more depth in upcoming blogs.

Triumph Hurdle – Goshen

Goshen would have been one of the most impressive winners of a Triumph Hurdle in what looked a quality Triumph Hurdle, that really needs to be taken into account.

In my opinion, Jamie was right to ask him up at the last as he was on good stride and had the horse’s feet […]

Marsh Novices Chase – Saint Sonnet

Saint Sonnet – travelled well in against some good rivals when lacking in experience. He had only made his British debut 16 days ago and is only a 5 year old and arguably will have more improvement to come. He looked to be finding things a bit tough and […]

Liam’s Cheltenham Festival Thoughts for Day 3

Here are Liam’s thoughts for Day 3 at the Cheltenham Festival. I wonder whether there could be a quiet JP McManus gamble in the Pertemps Final but NOT on Sire Du Berlais!

What makes the Best Horse Racing Ratings service?

2020-03-16T16:41:45+00:00July 22nd, 2019|

The 4 main areas to choose the Best Horse Racing Ratings service!

Seems like a strange or biased article for a Ratings service provider to publish right? But once upon a time we were ratings service customers, rather than a ratings provider. Our experiences completely shaped the way we run the RatingTheRaces service today. Below is a short list of things that frustrated us when we were customers of Ratings services and our rules, we subsequently hold ourselves to.

ONLY ONE TOP RATED HORSE PER RACE

Seems obvious right? But so many services have a Top Rated, a Top Speed Rated, a Top Course Rated, a […]

3 Out Of 4 Grand National’s predicted by a Statistical Algorithm!

3 Out Of 4 Grand National’s predicted by a Statistical Algorithm!

Not just any old algorithm, it was the RatingTheRaces ratings algorithm!!!

So how on earth does an algorithm, achieve this? Well, as many of you know statistics can be used to predict a lot of things, and in horse racing we can generate A LOT of statistics. Fun fact – did you know the human brain can only consider a maximum of 4 parameters. I know. Stunned. Me too. We all feel smarter than that, but apparently, we simply are not. However, whilst an algorithm does have limitations in terms of numbers of parameters, it is far, far greater […]
