After a relative quiet period for the TOP TIPS they have been back to their high standard recently with plenty of good winners as well as a few eyecatching runs in defeat.

Saturday 18th May 2013

On Saturday 18th May 2013 we started the day slowly with defeats for Gallipot, Biographer, Caravan Rolls On, Modern Tutor and Signor Sassi.

Gallipot was reported moments before the race to be badly in need of the run by her trainer John Gosden and so it proved. After travelling into the race and hitting 1.7 in the run she got tired very quickly. This was still a promising effort and with this run under her belt she is sure to go close next time.

Biographer and Caravan Rolls On were also both very eyecatching, having both been held up they made late ground to finish in a dead heat for 4th. Both traded much shorter than their starting price but in truth both probably left it too late. They both should come on for this run and it wouldn’t surprise us if both ran really big races next time out.

With things not going to plan, we needed a big run from Hasopop and he duly delivered. Having been drawn on the rail he was slightly slow away meaning one or two were able to cross in front of him. This appeared to suit though and he was travelling like the winner a long way out, he just needed some racing room. It eventually came with about 1 furlong to go and he quickened up nicely to win by a neck although this winning distance doesn’t do him justice. A fantastic win for our TOP TIPS @ 12/1.

Going into the final race of the day we were 5 points in profit and had staked 4 points (our biggest bet of the day) on Farhh so were guaranteed a small profit. Farhh was really well backed from 9/2 into 10/3 and he was a very impressive winner. Always travelling close to the pace, when asked to quicken by Silvestre De Sousa he quickly asserted and put the race to bed. His winning margin of 4 lengths again didn’t really flatter him and he looks like he will be very difficult to beat over 1m – 1m2f this season.

A brilliant 20.45 points profit was made with an ROI of 146.07% and hopefully a sign of things to come.

Saturday 25th May 2013

After a fantastic Saturday prior we were hoping things would continue on Saturday 25th May 2013 which featured the Irish 2000 Guineas. We decided to split our bets between Goodwood, York, Haydock and Curragh and this decision paid off.

Our first selection Afsare  didn’t run after playing up at the start so our first advised bet to run was a new advised type of bet. We advised a forecast on Songcraft to beat Bite of The Cherry and were very pleased to see this come off. A great start to the day with 5.08 points banked.

Our 2nd selection to run was York Glory who traded at 2.8 in the run after looking like he was going to win but just failed to get a clear run in time. This race has already worked out well and York Glory may well be worth another look at next time he runs. A small e/w profit as he was advised e/w at 10/1.

After Newstead Abbey finished 2nd (was advised as a win bet) and Havana Gold finished 4th (was advised e/w) which was very frustrating so we were hoping for better luck in the Temple Stakes.

With Reckless Abandon and Kingsgate Native as our selections we felt we had a good chance here.

Reckless Abandon on his seasonal debut and against his elders for the first time ran a cracking race on the far side (in a group of 3) and ended up finishing 3rd after trading as low as 1.4 in the run. Winning the race and gaining his first win for 3 years was our other selection Kingsgate Native. He turned the tables on Sole Power and rewarded us with a 14/1 winner which was a great way to end the day.

So another good day with 16.25 points profit banked at an ROI of 116.07%. Fantastic stuff.

Friday 31st May 2013

We went into the Oaks day (Friday 31st May)full of confidence and hoped for another profitable day.

We got off to a great start with Thistle Bird winning @ 4/1 although we gave some of this back with Ultrasonic failing to place. Ultrasonic is one to keep on side however as for the last 2 races she hasn’t got a clear run and will be winning soon.

After a host of non runners in the 2nd race we were left with just Area Fifty One who was given a strange ride, after being prominent he was allowed to drop back to be in last turning for home only to pick up really well to go past all bar the course specialist Resurge. A small each way profit was achieved but we can’t help but think we were a bit unlucky not to win.

Producer was next up for us and he got very worked up at the start which isn’t like him and he then wouldn’t settle throughout the first stages of the race, after being allowed to lead he faded pretty tamely and his pre-race antics must have contributed to this.

Our next tip Vainglory who finished 4th in this race in 2011 behind the 2011 and 2012 winner was given his usual hold up ride but this time unlike in 2011 was quickly put into the race after turning for home with a thunderous run down the outside of the field. He appeared to hit the front too soon and was being closed on late on but was too far clear and was a fantastic 12/1 winner for the TOP TIPS.

Our Final race of the day was The Oaks where Secret Gesture and The Lark ran cracking races for us but were beaten into 2nd and 3rd by Talent. The winning time of this race was quite slow compared to previous years which wouldn’t have suited The Lark and so her 3rd has to go down as a very good run and she could spring a surprise next time out in a truer run race.

A profit of 14.13 points at an ROI of 141.3% for the day meaning the last 3 days of TOP TIPs have produced 50.83 points profit at an ROI of 134.48%

Saturday 1st June 2013

After 3 consecutive profitable days for the TOP TIPS we made a small loss of 4.625 points however this was very unfortunate as nothing went our way.

High Troja ran a good race in the opener but his jockey may have been caught napping and he ended up finishing 4th. 2 of the front 3 that were allowed to go clear of the rest of the field held ended up finishing 1st and 3rd.

Our 2nd TOP TIP of the day was Riverboat Springs who ran a remarkable race, after failing to handle the course and being outpaced early he was 20 lengths behind turning for home only to finish fastest of all and get up for 2nd. A straight course or less undulating course like Ascot is surely going to suit better and he should run a big race wherever he next appears.

In the Epsom Dash we advised the 2 Middleham Park Racing horses, Captain Dunne and Smoothtalkinrascal and we were very unlucky to finish 2nd with Smoothtalkinrascal who didn’t get the clearest of runs and probably lost more ground than he was eventually by at the start of the race when bumped coming out of the stalls. 2 unlucky 2nd’s in 2 races @ 11/2 and 14/1.

The Derby was a let down for us with Dawn Approach pulling far too hard as not getting home, a drop back to 1m looks likely to be where he’ll stay for this season at the very least. Ocovango ran a better race but was blocked off at the crucial time and finished 5th. Previous Multiple (on debut) and TOP TIP (at Chester) Ruler of The World was a good winner of the race but read our Epsom review for why we think he may be vulnerable in the future.

We recouped some of our losses with Sheikhzayedroad winning @ 6/1 and once again were very unlucky with our other selection John Biscuit who was a fast finishing 4th. More was to follow with Dr Red Eye in the last finishing 5th so just missing out on an e/w position.

High Troja, Riverboat Springs, Smoothtalkinrascal, John Biscuit and Dr Red Eye all missed out on either a win or an e/w position by 1 place and we despite this we ended the day just -4.625 points which is just a small dent in out cumulative profits so far.
