Handicap Mark Changes – 06/09/2022

How to use our Free RTR NagMe/Tracker tool

Adding a horse to your NagMe is a great way to remind you when a horse is due to run next. Was it eyecatching, a sure fire winner next time, hugely unlucky or just one that you want to keep an eye on? Add it to your RTR NagMe (Free to use) and get an email notification when it’s next due to run!

These include a horse that I really hope is kept to handicap company next time!

Persist (+2 to 87)

Persist went up 2lb for her win at Haydock and I think she’s still a 90+ Filly but may not always find/want to find when coming off the bridle and arguably needs to be dropped in front on the line. I think connections are learning this and she’ll be given a ride next time to get there in the final few strides. I do think she travels better than her current mark and hope she can win again soon.

Euchen Glen – please stick to handicap company (-1 to 104)

Euchen Glen disappointed back in 3rd in the Old Borough Cup despite being beaten just 3 lengths in a race that really wouldn’t have suited. He likes to be held up and smuggled into the race but the small field and the front pair going clear meant Paul had to make a mid-race move which was completely against the strengths of Euchen Glen. I thought he was already well handicapped and to see him dropped another pound gives him a great chance next time he runs in a ‘normal’ race. I just hope he’s kept to handicap company and isn’t stepped up to Listed class again. He is very versatile with trip so trying to predict the race he will end up in is very tricky. I will be keeping an eye out for him in whatever race he turns up in!

Scottish Summit – sub 90 and ready to win (-2 to 89)

Scottish Summit last win came at Newcastle off a mark of 89 whilst his last 4 wins/places have come off a mark of 89 suggesting this is the mark he can start getting competitive (he’s 9 so clearly struggles when rated higher than 90 now). I also saw enough in his last race at Ripon to suggest he can certainly go well next time off a mark of 89. As a 9 year old he’s unlikely to be ‘found’ in the market as well so he’s worth keeping an eye out for.

Amtiyaz – ignore his last 2 runs (-3 to 95)

Amtiyaz has now been dropped 5lb in his 2 runs since his return from over a year off the track. He was well supported on both runs and both runs could be excused. The trip was surely too short on his first run back before he was too keen in a messy race (Old Borough Cup) and in a more ‘normal’ race over this trip or even a bit further. I think an AW campaign may be the route they go with Amtiyaz now with the All-Weather Marathon the main target.
