He was last of 6 but could bounce back next time!
2 more 2nd’s over the weekend with both Ejtilaab and Bielsa finishing 2nd at Chester & Haydock respectively. I thought Bielsa had got there but was one stride too late and beaten in the photo whilst Ejtilaab has simply bumped into a rapidly improving horse.

Doubling Dice (Hugo Palmer) dropped 2lb to 85
Doubling Dice finished last of 6 on his return this season over a CD where he had won before disappointing in the Old Rowley Cup. That said he was having his first run for 232 days and that may have contributed to his disappointing run. If a horse is not super fit and they try and make all they can find they get tired late on and fade very quickly and I’m hoping that was the case for Doubling Dice. On his return last season he was only 4th in a maiden before then going to Hamilton on the soft ground and winning by 15 lengths. If it was a case of just needing the run then dropping him 2lb is only a bonus and I hope he can bounce back next time.
Tarboosh (Paul Midgley) dropped 2lb to 105
Tarboosh disappointed at Haydock over the weekend in a Listed race over 5f finishing 7th of 11 but I am willing to forgive him this run as he was far too keen early on. I expected him to wait out the back and try and pick up the pieces but he pulled himself towards the front and actually traded as low as 3.5 in the run. This demonstrates that he travelled/overraced and looked like he was going to play a hand in the finish but ultimately his early keen hard pulling motion cost him late on. He’s dropped to a mark of 105 which is the same mark as he last won off (albeit in a Listed race) but he has won a handicap at Doncaster off 104 in 2018. I don’t think winning another big handicap off a high mark is beyond him even at this stage of his career if he settles better early on. There are a couple of handicaps at York that I think will suit him.
