Royal Ascot Review 2021

2021-06-19T23:35:15+01:00June 19th, 2021|

Why do people moan about rides?

Why do people complain about rides? Because they lost a few ££’s and they don’t understand the difference between a bad ride and an unfortunate ride. Horses can’t simply run through other horses that may be in the way. Similarly people expect jockeys to know what their mounts and others are going to do all the time. When a gap closes it’s not always (or even often) the fault of the jockey going for the gap and yet they get moaned at.

The criticism of Frankie on Stradivarius is ridiculous. The claim that he should have been closer turning in would have meant he […]

He was last of 6 but could bounce back next time!

2 more 2nd’s over the weekend with both Ejtilaab and Bielsa finishing 2nd at Chester & Haydock respectively. I thought Bielsa had got there but was one stride too late and beaten in the photo whilst Ejtilaab has simply bumped into a rapidly improving horse.

Royal Hunt Cup next!

After another great run from one of our horses highlighted here (Sunday Sovereign 2nd @ 20/1), hopefully we can continue this good run! This week I think I’ve found one that I really like for the Royal Hunt Cup as well as a horse who I think will run much better next time out when I think he will be fitter!

National Hunt Horses and their targets

With the weekly blog, we will also be highlighting National Hunt horses (this will calm down in the summer) and here are a few that I’ve spotted so far.

If The Cap Fits – Ladbrokes Trophy

If The Cap Fits looks to me perfect for the Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury in November. He had been running some nice races over fences including when 2nd to Yala Enki at Taunton when getting outstayed and 3rd to Shan Blue at Kempton (track was too sharp). He returned to hurdles after his 2nd to Yala Enki and was well beaten at Cheltenham and Aintree and […]

Weekly Handicap Blog – Royal Ascot contender?

I aim to write a blog each Tuesday highlighting horses that I feel have been dropped in the handicap down to a mark where I think they can be very competitive. This week, I think there is a horse who is being laid out for a return to Royal Ascot!

Nelson River dropped 4lb to 126

Surely next season Tony Carroll will be stepping this horse up in trip again as he has won on the AW over 2m! His only effort over further came in the Coral Cup where he was held up out the back and never really got […]

Cheltenham Festival 2021 – Liam’s selections so far

Cheltenham Festival 2021 – Liam’s Selections

Hopefully you’ve been following Liam’s blogs and thoughts and backed a few of these yourself. Here are Liam’s selections and reasoning so far.

Supreme Novices Hurdle

Appreciate It @ 5/2

Appreciate It has the stamina to win over further and hopefully wins later today. This stamina is all important at Cheltenham. After suggesting he would be a great bet in the Albert Bartlett this year after his 2nd in the Champion Bumper, he has since proven himself quick enough over 2m and should be strong at the finish at Cheltenham.

Flinteur Sacre @ 16/1

Has been really disappointing and wont be running in […]

Cheltenham Festival 2020 – Where Are They Now?

Cheltenham Festival 2020 Top 5 and In Running Lows

Last year this blog highlighted Concertista @ 25/1 and Dame De Compagnie @ 20/1. 2nd and 3rd in the Gold Cup and 2nd in the Kim Muir. Hopefully we can find another couple of big price winners!

Horses that run well at one Cheltenham Festival generally run well at subsequent Cheltenham Festivals either due to the way the races are run or because connections target a return and here we look at those who finished in the Top 5 of each race of the Cheltenham Festival 2020, the in-running low and where they are now and what the targets could be […]

Quick-Fire National Hunt Thoughts

National Hunt Season 2020/2021 Quick-Fire Thoughts from Liam – 30th December 2020

A fantastic week of Racing. We hope you all had a fantastic Christmas. Liam has compiled a list of horses that caught his eye over the last week and potential targets for these including a horse who looks like he may be off for the Pertemps Final now he’s rated high enough to get in as well as plenty that he feels will be back for the Dublin Racing Festival in February!
