Khaadem (Charles Hills) dropped 2lb to 107

Khaadem was only 5th in a Group 3 on the AW but his turf mark was dropped 2lb for that effort. He had previously finished an ok 2nd in a Listed race on the turf when beaten by the still improving Line of Departure. It was only a few runs further back that he was being sent off at 13/2 (twice) for Group 1 events at Ascot and Newmarket. Back down to a 107 he is now back to his mark that he won (and very comfortably) the Stewards Cup back in 2019. Granted he was getting the 3 year old allowance that day but even carrying another 4lb that day I think he would have won. If connections do want to try and sharpen him back up for a return to Group 1 company later this season then it wouldn’t surprise me to see him back at Goodwood in the Stewards Cup.

Caroline Dale (David Loughnane) dropped 3lb to 92

Caroline Dale ended last season finishing 3rd in a Group 3 event at Ascot beaten just 1 1/2 lengths and then finishing 3rd in a Listed event at Newbury beaten just 2 lengths. She made her return at Chester in a handicap over 5f and everything went wrong. She missed the break, was short of room, lost a shoe and wasn’t given a hard time at all. For a horse who generally races forward it was clear her chance was gone when she got shuffled to the back of the field. I was therefore very surprised to see the handicapper drop her 3lb and her owner reports she is absolutely fine. I think with a gentle fitness run now under her belt as well she can bounce back next time

Firmament (David O’Meara) dropped 3lb to 84

Firmament dropped another 3lb to 84 after finishing only 4th at Chester in a race where he was arguably given far too much to do. He’s now down to a mark that surely he has to go close soon and that is likely to happen at his beloved York.  In Early July last year he raced at York off a mark of 95 and ran a good race for 6th and we then highlighted he would go close next time which he duly did when winning off 93. These 2 races at York on Saturday 10th July & Friday 23rd July are surely where we see him next.
