The Price Record column
Has this horse ever won at the sort of price it is today? The Price Record column answers that in one cell, and the hover gives you its whole record band by band.
A member asked for this one. Plenty of punters want to know whether a horse has ever actually won at the kind of price it is today, or whether every one of its wins came when it was favourite. Price Record puts that on the card. It is a Professional column, and it is off until you switch it on.
Switching it on
It is not shown by default. Open Tools, click Select Columns, tick Price Record and press Update. See Customising your ratings view if you have not used the column picker before.
What the cell shows
The column sits over on the right, beside Win Odds. Each cell reads wins / runs: how often this horse has won from how many runs at today's price band, on today's code. It is bold once the horse has won in that band.
Two things decide what you are looking at:
- Today's band comes off the card's own price, so the cell moves with the market. Before the off that is the Win Odds; once the race is off it is the industry SP. A horse backed from 8/1 into 4/1 crosses into a different band, and the cell changes with it.
- Today's code means turf flat, all-weather or jumps are counted separately, because they are different tests.
The bands run Odds-on, Evs-6/4, 13/8-9/4, 5/2-4/1, 9/2-6/1, 13/2-8/1, 17/2-12/1, 14/1-20/1, 22/1-40/1 and Over 40/1.
The hover, which is where the detail is
Hover the cell and you get the horse's whole record, one table per code, with today's band lit up.
Each row gives you Runs, Wins, Places and the profit or loss to a £1 level stake at both SP and Exchange SP. Every run the horse has had is in there, grouped by the price it started at.
How to read it, and how not to
This is a profile, not a tip. It tells you what a horse has done at a price, and that is genuinely useful context: a horse with a win in the 14/1-20/1 band has at least proved it can run a big race when unconsidered, where one that is 0 from 12 at big prices has not.
What it is not is an edge on its own. We tested the idea properly before building it, across six years of racing, and horses that have won in today's band do not go on to win more often than horses that have only won at other prices. The market has already priced that in. So treat the column as part of a horse's story, next to its RTR figures for today, rather than as a reason to back something by itself.
