Refund policy
You can request a full refund within 14 days of payment, unless you've already downloaded a previous day's ratings data. Here's how it works and how to ask.
Your 14-day refund period
When you take out a RatingTheRaces subscription you have a 14-day cooling-off period, starting on the day you pay. If you change your mind within those 14 days you can ask for a full refund, no reason needed.
What ends the refund period early
The one thing that ends your refund right before the 14 days are up is downloading a previous day's ratings data (for example the XLS or CSV export of an earlier day's ratings).
Downloading previous days' data means you've accessed the paid content the subscription exists to provide, so at that point the cooling-off refund no longer applies. This follows your rights under the UK Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, where the right to cancel digital content ends once you begin accessing it.
Simply logging in, or viewing the freely available first race of the day, does not end your refund period, only downloading a previous day's data does.
This also covers subscribing around a major racing festival. If you take out a subscription for an event such as the Cheltenham Festival, the Grand National meeting or Royal Ascot and use the ratings across it, you've had the full benefit of the paid content for what you signed up for, so a refund won't apply if you then cancel a few days later.
After the 14 days, or once you've downloaded data
If you're outside the 14-day window, or you've already downloaded a previous day's data, you're generally no longer eligible for a refund. You can still cancel at any time to stop future charges, and you keep full access until the end of the period you've already paid for, so there's usually nothing left to refund. See How to cancel your subscription.
If you think there are exceptional circumstances, contact the support team and we'll look at it individually. A duplicate charge is always put right.
Renewals you didn't intend
Subscriptions renew automatically so your access doesn't lapse. If a renewal charges and you didn't mean to continue, get in touch as soon as you notice and we'll consider a refund at our discretion, based on how far into the new period you are:
- Caught within a few days of the renewal, and you haven't used it, a refund is likely.
- Well into the period (say four months into a six-month term), a full refund won't apply, as most of the term has already been available to you. We may offer a partial amount for the unused time.
To avoid an unwanted renewal altogether, cancel before your renewal date, you keep access to the end of the period you've paid for.
How to request a refund
Contact the support team from the email address on your account and include the date of the charge you're asking about. Requesting from your account email lets us find the payment quickly. Once a refund is approved it's returned to your original payment method; card refunds typically take a few working days to appear, depending on your bank or PayPal.
