Newcastle Racecourse is both an AW flat track and a turf NH track which is one of the reasons we love this track. Over jumps it features some excellent races including the Rehearsal Chase which in 2017 was won by 2019 Cheltenham Festival winner Beware The Bear. In December 2018 it was won by Lake View Lad who looks to have a big chance in the Grand National next weekend!
The feature race over jumps at Newcastle is the Fighting Fifth Hurdle which has been won the past 2 years by Dual Champion Hurdle winner Buveur D’Air. Others to have run in the race include Samcro, Apples Jade, Binocular, Celestial Halo, Cinders And Ashes, Grumeti, Arctic Fire , Top Notch and Sceau Royal (all of whom were beaten!).
It certainly deserves to be a race that in the future attracts bigger fields but it’s still a fantastic race!
On the Flat the feature race is the Northumberland Plate. In 2017 the winner Higher Power has since contested Group races whilst the 3rd went on to finish 2nd in the Ebor. The winner of the 2018 running was Withhold who had also previously won the Cesarewitch. Back in 2nd that day was globetrotting Prince of Arran whilst back in 6th was Time To Study. Time To Study has recently moved to Ian Williams, keep an eye out for this horse this season!
As you can see the racing at Newcastle is top quality and we are delighted to announce that there will be tickets to be won to the Good Friday meeting!
The feature race on the card is the Burradon Stakes which was won last year by Gronkowski who has since been travelling the world and tonight runs at Meydan in another Group 1!
We recommend following him on twitter for his latest updates!
