The Irish Grand National is scheduled to be run on Monday 13th April 2020. Hopefully I can find the winner this year again and I think I’ve already highlighted them recently!
There were plenty of British raiders entered but under the current Coronavirus rules, none of these would be able to take part.
Fitzhenry – trained by Paul Nolan
Fitzhenry finished 6th in the Kim Muir Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham Festival under what I thought was a very patient ride by Patrick Mullins. I actually thought he gave him far too much to and was too patient. He didn’t start riding him until coming into the 2nd last fence when those in front had already skipped clear and were not for catching. He has form over this Grand National trip including finishing 4th in an Irish Grand National trial as well 2nd in a Troytown Chase and Paddy Power Chase. If Barry is back on board, I would expect him to go very close.

Ravenhill – trained by Gordon Elliott
Ravenhill was a very impressive winner of the National Hunt Challenge Cup Chase at the Cheltenham Festival when I thought he was given a fantastic ride by Jamie Codd and this was only his 1st run over further than 3 and showed that he really stays the trip very well. He’s won a Galway Plate Trial, 5th in a Galway Plate, 2nd in a Kerry National and is now a Cheltenham Festival winner. His form is very good and despite being a 10 year old , he has only had 15 runs to date under rules.
You can read more about him here: Cheltenham Festival 2020 Day 1 – One To Follow
Great to see both entered in this race and hopefully they will both run!
They are currently Ravenhill @ 16/1 & Fitzhenry @ 20/1
