Cheltenham Festival Ante-Post bet analysis

Earlier this month we posted an Ante-Post selection in the Premium Members Forum for the RSA Chase in the name of No More Heroes @ 12/1. Since then he has made his chase debut over 2m4f and won impressively and his trainer has suggested his next run will be in the Drinmore Chase at Fairyhouse.

This should be a good race for No More Heroes and it looks like a race that Gigginstown target having won the race for 3 of the last 4 years with Bog Warrior, Don Cossack and Valseur Lido. Both the last 2 winners have since won Grade 1 races over 3m+ and No More Heroes could […]

Byrne Group Handicap Chase:

A great race to start for the races with a sour aftertaste due to the injury of Baby Mix. The race started with Pearls Legend and Baby Mix making the pace however Harry Cobden soon pushed the expected pace setter Ulck Du Lin to the front however from 6 out the leader started to flag and was very quickly passed by Pearls Legend, Baby Mix, Purple N Gold, Sergeant Reckless and Cold March. Bellenos had already been pulled up by this stage and surely there was something amiss. Coming to 3 out it looked between Pearls Legend and Baby Mix but the latter made a mess of […]

Byrne Group Handicap Chase:

A 2m 192y Handicap Chase is our first race that we are going to have a look at with last years winner Ulck Du Lin back for more. After winning this early season race he had to wait until his last race of the season at Wincanton before winning again and this means he comes here off a 15lb higher mark and even with his 7lb claimer taking 7lb off the talented Sean Bowen did exactly the same last year meaning he is running off a 15lb higher mark. The eyecatching name in the race is that of Sgt Reckless who ran in the Arkle last year […]

A small field for this race however all eyes were on Sizing John who had won 2 hurdle races last season including a Grade 1 before finishing 2nd, 3rd and 2nd behind Douvan. Making his chase debut he was settled behind the leaders initially before jumping himself to the front with about 1 mile to go. His jumping was fluent throughout and turned into the straight still hard on the bridle. Asked to quicken between the 2nd last and last he put a few lengths between himself and the runner up. He jumped the last really well and pulled away well […]

Our Cheltenham Thoughts

On Friday racing returned to Prestbury Park and the home of the Cheltenham Festival. We were really looking forward to the buzz returning for the NH game and one or two caught our eye this weekend.

The first race on the card was won by TOP RATED Penglai Pavilion who despite drifting (reportedly unfit after his 96 day lay off) alarmingly in the betting he travelled ominously well under a confident Aidan Coleman. His hurdling was very economical as he was up and down very quickly and was ever so slightly keen for most of the first circuit. After jumping the 2nd last he was angled out slightly but […]

Moon Racer

Moon Racer was a very impressive winner of the Champion Bumper last year at the Cheltenham Festival. Despite jumping slowly and being caught out of position he picked up really nicely before slipping down the inside off the bend. He quickened up nicely and ran away stylishly at the finish and connections stated he would be started over 2m over hurdles indicating that he’ll be stepped up in the future which based on his Cheltenham win looks very likely. We think he can win a couple of novice hurdles before turning up at the Cheltenham Festival in the Neptune Novices Hurdle as the […]

John Smiths Cup

Ajman Bridge is TOP RATED after his good 2nd behind Arab Dawn at Royal Ascot when Adam Kirby lost his whip late on. This may have been the difference between winning and losing. He has a 5lb pull with Arab Dawn and even with improvement possible from Arab Dawn it would be a surprise if he managed to maintain the places however a factor that could keep them very closely matched is the ability to handle this course. Ajman Bridge should have found Ascot to his liking and it was probably evident by his very good performance however York isn’t meant to suit as much and this could […]

John Smith’s Racing Stakes

Musaddas is having only his 2nd start of the season having won on his reappearance beating Jacob Black (1st, 2nd and 5th since and raised 7lb), Express Himself (1st since and raised 5lb) and Master The World (4th, 3rd and 1st since and raised 7lb) and although Musaddas has been raised 7lb himself this may not be enough to stop his progression as he should both be fitter for that run. Exceed and Excel progeny don’t often run well at York however that was the case at Newmarket as well and yet he won very nicely there. She has been priced up favourite but our ratings make […]

Angel Vision ran a subsequently decent maiden effort last season as a 2 year old when 4th behind Fadhayyil (finished 2nd in Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot since) before winning on her reappearance at Newmarket. Her first run in a handicap appeared disappointing when beaten 5 lengths by Sahaafy however the form has since worked out well with Sahaafy now rated 99, and 3rd having won only yesterday off a mark of 80 in very easy fashion. Angel Vision after being beaten then contested another handicap at Newmarket and this time was far too good for her rivals and although she […]

Temptress was last season finishing 2nd when advised by this blog in the Royal Hunt Cup just going down to GM Hopkins (also advised by the blog) at Royal Ascot. Going into that Temptress had shown some smart form and was rapidly progressing including when winning on her reappearance at Ascot beating Spirit Raiser (1st and 2nd since) and Amazing Maria (3rd and 1st since – the win in a Group 2). She was probably a bit unlucky in the Royal Hunt Cup as held up right out the back she was always travelling well and had to switch right to the far side rail […]
