Sunday brought the end of Irish Champions Weekend at the Curragh, with the Irish St Leger, the Moyglare, the National Stakes and the Flying Five, while Doncaster finished off its St Leger meeting. We went back through every race we covered in our Irish St Leger day analysis, and the treble we put together, Star Of State, Sun Goddess and Scandinavia, all won.
1:25 Doncaster, 5f handicap
Ancient State won it at 5.50, and he held off the late challenge of our selection Adrestia, who was 2nd at 8.50. She closed all the way to the line and we thought she was going to get there. Oisin Murphy was outridden by Callum Rodriguez on the winner, and on the day that was the difference.
It is a frustrating one, because Adrestia came straight off our tracker. We put her in after she finished 17th at Goodwood, and next time out she runs an absolute screamer of a 2nd. The Goodwood run was not her running, and this proved it.
The Man, our other selection, looked like he would hang on for 3rd but was run down late and finished 4th at 6.50. It was not a bad race at all.
Hypnotised goes on the tracker
The run to take out of the race was Hypnotised, who finished really strongly right at the line to take 3rd at 7.00 off 83. He is one of the most unexposed horses in the race and is still very lightly raced. They may find a race for him this season, but we are sure there is a race in him next season, and it will be interesting to see whether they step him up to 6f. We are adding him to our tracker.
