# The First Run Gelded filter

How-to professional new

A first run after gelding is one of the form book's classic fresh-start angles. The First Run Gelded filter finds every such run in the history, and today's qualifiers with it.

Open the Data Filters panel on [ProStats](https://ratingtheraces.com/stats/prostats/all/) and you will find **First Run Gelded** with a simple Yes/No choice.

Set it to Yes and the history narrows to first runs after gelding, so you can measure the angle properly: by trainer, by course, by distance, or crossed with any other filter in the panel. Set it to No to exclude them instead.

A few details worth knowing:

- The flag is stamped on every run in the database, so the figures come from the full history, not a recent window.
- It pairs naturally with the [Debutant filter](https://ratingtheraces.com/tools-features/prostats-filters-reference/) and the trainer group-by: some yards are demonstrably sharper with a freshly gelded horse than others, and now you can see which.
- Like every data filter, it feeds saved filtersets, so a first-run-gelded system can alert you through [Today's Qualifiers](https://ratingtheraces.com/tools-features/todays-qualifiers/).

The First Run Gelded filter is available to Professional members.
